The following German photos depict scenes from 8th June 1940 and the actual engagement with the Glorious, Ardent and Acasta.
They were originally available to crew members from the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau for their personal photo albums that covered their service time in the forces.
These particular images are likely to be stills taken from film made by the war correspondants on the Scharnhorst which were later to be shown as newsreeels to the general public. Some of this film can be seen by clicking on the links section at the bottom of the left hand column.
