On Saturday, October 24th, Chairman Vinny Marcroft attended a dedication ceremony in Rugeley, Staffordshire on behalf of GLARAC to honour the memory of one of our staunchest supporters, Malcolm Knight.
Malcolm and his wife were good friends of our late Chairman, David Emery and his wife Dorothy. He was a Royal Navy veteran who served on several ships, amongst them being HMS Blackpool and HMS Diamond.
After leaving the navy, Malcolm and his son Simon, formed a haulage company called Diamond Freight, named after the ship. His vehicles were liveried with the ships badges of HM Ships, Diamond, Acasta, Ardent and Glorious, such was his allegiance to the Royal Navy and the ships, and crew, that he respected.
This allegiance and respect was greatly honoured and remembered at the dedication ceremony in Rugeley, and conducted by Padre Robert Icke. Malcolm was also acknowledged by the attendance of the RNA, the RBL and the Staffordshire Sea Cadets, who all saluted Malcolm with their standards. See photos attached.
Many of his family and friends were also present and his brother was very emotional during his eulogy and praise for Malcolm saying how kind, thoughtful and considerate he was. Everyone present was then given a tot of rum and toasted the memory of Malcolm Knight. GLARAC echoes all of those comments and sentiments and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends but always remembered with a smile. RIP.
Simon told me that the company will be ordering new vehicles some time next year and they will carry the badges of our three ships. Thank you Simon. We are so grateful for that.
